Fiction - Graphic Novel

Walt Disney's Comics and Stories #669
By William Van Horn, Don Markstein, Sarah Kinney, Wilbert Plijnaar, Per Hedman, Francisco Rodriguez, Al Hubbard, Jose Maria Manrique, Jack Bradbury, and Flemming Andersen
Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories #669 was surprisingly really fun to read! At first I wasn’t very excited about having to read a graphic novel because when I hear those words I automatically think of Pokemon, something I’m not really interested in. However, when I went to the Public Library on Duraleigh, I came across this book and I was pleasantly surprised! This is a comic book series with hundreds of different Disney characters and all of the adventures they embark on. In the Walt Disney’s Comics and Stories series some of the characters include, Donald Duck, Mickey Mouse, Chip n’ Dale, and Winnie the Pooh, just to name a few. This particular book, #669, the main character is Donald Duck. Donald is trying to be the hero of his city, Duckburg, and combat the criminals. Donald and his neighbor, Jones, build robot bodyguards. It is a really funny book with a lot of great pictures and laughs. I think it is important to incorporate graphic novels in the classroom because they are something many students enjoy, especially boys! Although I a not a huge fan of them, that does not mean I should hold back on putting them on my bookshelf. It would be fun to have students create their own mini graphic novel of 5 or 6 comics of their own. This would give them the opportunity to write in a different way, using pictures and comics.
